To anyone who’s put off by the title of this post: I love Macs too. (I just can’t afford the nice ones).
My first EP was recorded on my ASUS laptop in the summer of 2009. The new EP was recorded in a recording studio in St. Louis and the recording quality is an order of magnitude greater. I’d like to continue with my future recordings in a recording studio but I’d also still like to dabble at home!
Since my ASUS laptop died (it was the hard drive, not the mother board) shortly after the recording of the first EP, I replaced it with a Sony laptop. I’ve been doing some sample recording on there but it just can’t take it cap’n! Slower than a limping zebra on the freeway.
All that leads to the fact that I’ve decided to build a new PC that will be designed to handle all the recording stress I could possibly throw at it (and maybe some games too).
I did several hours of research and looked at reviews and I was pretty confident when I clicked that buy button. (You can tell this can’t end well). I waited a week and a half for my shiny new toy parts to get here. Well they finally did and the I was never happier to see the UPS man!
I rolled up my sleeves and pulled up my reference PC Building YouTube videos. I pulled out the motherboard and unpacked the all-powerful CPU. As I gently placed the CPU into the mother board, I noticed I had definitely made a mistake. Unfortunately, I bought the wrong motherboard. (I guess you could say I bought the wrong CPU. But hey, the CPU is better than my motherboard so let’s get something better).
Long story short (tldr;) I sent back my motherboard today. Now I’m waiting for a store to stock my proper motherboard (as luck would have it, there was an Intel recall of the type of motherboard that I need early in February. The stores won’t start carrying them until mid March or April).
I’ll post pictures when I begin building the long-awaited PC. Then Pro Tools with finally answer to me instead of the alternative.
Hope all is well!
